ESPN Fires Announcer for Insulting Comments

ESPN fired Ron Franklin, an announcer who has been with the network since 1987, after he made insulting comments to a coworker.

According to reports, Jeannine Edwards, a sideline reporter, was having a conversation with a colleague when Franklin told her, “Listen to me, sweet baby, let me tell you something…” Edwards responded by telling Franklin not to address her like that. Franklin went on to say, “Okay, then, listen to me, a--hole.”

ESPN pulled Franklin from announcing the Fiesta Bowl, later firing him for his comments. ESPN stated they adhere to personal conduct policies, treating colleagues respectfully is of high importance for the network. Franklin has apologized for his comments.
