Kaplan Sued for Discrimination

Kaplan Higher Education Corp. has been sued for discriminating against Black job applicants. The suit alleges that by screening the credit history of potential employees, Black applicants were discriminated against.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission stated in the lawsuit that the practice of rejecting job applicants because of credit ratings has an unlawful discriminatory impact because of race and is neither job-related nor justified by business necessity.

The suit seeks to recover lost wages, benefits, and offers of employment for people who were not hired because of the company’s credit history screening procedures.
